Almost every episode of this season was one of the show’s all-time best, but Omnivore really is a cut above. Omnivore: This is my favorite season, and I kind of feel bad about picking Omnivore because it feels like the obvious choice.And what a killer cliffhanger! Few shows would subject their audiences to such a cruel worry for a whole summer. This episode is great because it gives every character their own storyline, which only accentuates the effectiveness of the season cliffhanger. This case is scary in a very different way from most episodes, reminding me of how I felt as a kid during the DC sniper attacks. Lo-Fi/Mayhem: It may be cheating to use a storyline that was finished in season 4, but the competition for season 4 is so stiff that I feel okay putting it here.I kind of wish it had been standalone, as the follow-up was kind of disappointing. It has a great story and created one of the best monsters the show has ever had.
It’s such an interesting shift in format, one that would be used to great effect by some of the best episodes from later in the series. No Way Out: I’m sure many would put the Tobias Hankel two parter here, but I can’t help but prefer this episode.Episodes like this separate Criminal Minds from other procedurals. That being said, this might be the best episode in the entire series.The story is unique and compelling. Broken Mirror and The Fox come to mind as episodes that made the show into what it is now. Ride the Lightning: A lot of episodes in season 1 have both aged well and did a great job setting up the show to reach great heights.Also, I am more than willing to defend my own choices in the comments.
